The thrill of victory. The agony of defeat. Sunday in Fremont had it all, on display through a haze of blazing heat.
Asskickers were on the agony end of the spectrum early on, as the Centrifuges dispatched them to the bar early by a rather large margin.
That set up a classic #1 vs. #2 showdown as Centrifuges prepared for the waiting Quincy Jones Love Machine.
The odds favored Quincy Jones marginally- they were well rested and the higher playoff seed, and for a while it looked like it might play out that way.
A see-saw battle ensued. Centrifuges put runs up early, but Quincy Jones answered right back and then some. Indeed, early on it seemed like the pattern was for each team to score one more run in their half of the inning than the last one did, one that- if it held true- would favor Quincy Jones kicking last as the home team.
At the top of the 7th, Quincy Jones led 4-3 and were three outs away from their first ever championship. But Centrifuges weren't ready to go home just yet. They loaded the bases and then through a series of bizarre plays that included shanks, dodges, jumps, and about three different infield singles without outs, Centrifuges had all of a sudden scored 4 runs and were in the driver's seat heading into the bottom of the 7th.
Quincy Jones had one last chance to make a hit record- could they pull it off? It looked possible as they put a few runners on and brought one home, but Centrifuges had done to much damage in their top half inning explosion, and Quincy Jones' final last comeback fell short with Centrifuges taking it 7-5.
Congratulations Centrifuges on your storybook win!
