After another Hot, Hot summer day here in Seattle, Dunder Mifflin and Just For Kicks showed up for the first game of the night. Both teams were excited to play and believed they had a shot to challenge the Violent Chubbies for the Championship. After the first inning the game was tied at zero and it looked as though it would be close. However, Just For Kicks started smashing the ball in the 2nd inning and took a commanding lead. They won the game 13 to 1 and went on to challenge The Violent chubbies for the Championship. The Championship game was tense. Very, very tense. The game stayed tied 2 to 2 then 4 to 4. The game was still tied in the 5th inning when the Violent Chubbies scored several runs in a row and continued to play very tough defense. Both teams were running the bases well, making smart defensive plays and keeping the game within reach. The Chubbies chose to be the Away team which gave Just for Kicks the final ups. They were down 5 to 7 and had the bases loaded with 2 outs. The final out was a short kick and the Chubbies took home the victory.
Steph was on her game Thursday night. The Chubbies were looking for a win. Steph brought her A-game and boot to play. 2 ducks on the pond, Steph is up to kick. Instead of a bunt she wails on it... it's a DOUBLE!!! 2 runs are scored and Steph is sitting pretty on 2nd. If that wasn't enough, her pop fly catches also ensured that her team came away the victors. 4 out catches!! An amazing game!!
Ethan Heck was a defensive machine at third-base on Tuesday night. Heck made a number of plays in the Violent Chubbies victory, but his most notable catch was a Willie Mays-esque over-the-head catch in shallow left field. Heck backpedaled, turned, and grabbed at the ball in one swift motion to finish up the defensive clinic he ran all night. Heck was one of the biggest reasons that the Violent Chubbies only allowed one run in their victory, and he was easily the Player of the Week for this league.
Rabecca played an amazing game on Thursday night. She made several plays at catcher where instead of picking up a bunt she kicked it straight to 1st base or the pitcher, immediately ending the play. Also, after taking a commanding lead she was no longer allowed to bunt so what did she do?? She blasted the ball over the center fielders head out toward the momba squad for a 3 run triple. Great game Rebecca.
In a tense and high scoring game, the biggest kick came not on offense, but on defense. Violent Chubbies and Just For Kicks battled back and forth for quite a while ending up tied at 16 going into the last inning. The Chubbies tacked on 6 in the top of the 7th, which might have been enough to seal the deal in a normal game, but these two teams could put runs up like nobody's business. Just For Kicks fired off a few quick runs to start their bottom half, and got a few more on base when a female came up and laid down a decent bunt down the third base line. Catcher Rebecca Stackhouse had three options: play it safe and hope it goes foul, play it safer and pick the ball up but just hold it, or go for the gold and the win. Rebecca went for it, using her soccer skills to redirect the kick with her own foot over towards first, beating out the runner for the final out, and quashing Just For Kicks' comeback bid.
