Alison can only remind one of a merciless and unrelenting feudal warlord. She commands her territory with the utmost ferocity, and once a week, she must defend her hallowed grounds through means of battle. Alison's commanding persona leaves no doubt in her players' minds that it would be far better to show up to a rainy kickball game than to miss it and face Alison and her furor later. Steve Pool's Sluggers both fear and love their captain Alison, and despite the weather, she mobilized a large enough squad to force her opposition to forfeit on Thursday evening.
Life is full of unexpected twists and turns as the forfeited loss often morphs into a victory and the anticipated triumph falls from grace. A surprising instance such as this came as Colin Harrigan and Steve Pool's Sluggers were on the field and The Golden Shockers were up to bat. The kicker sent a fast grounder towards the gap between the First and Second Basemen, and the runner ran confidently to First Base, thinking, in the words of Bob Dylan, that he "had it made." But First Baseman Colin did not give up. He flung his body onto the ground to stop the ball, and from his knees, he mustered up all of his strength to throw the ball at the runner. It was faint, but the ball definitely emitted a 'tick' as it just brushed the shoe of the formerly ecstatic runner one step away from the safety of First Base. The runner could not argue, either, as he begrudgingly accepted the reversal of fortunes, and Colin Harrigan brushed the dirt off his shoulders and prepared for the next play.
