The championship event at Northacres was nothing short of explosive. Sexxiness prevailed out of the gate with a 3-2 first inning, but the Geckos warmed up the vocal chords to bark back with 5 and 6 run efforts in the third and fourth. Led by Brandon Madden, Sexxy then found their rythym in the 5th with a game high 7 runs, but the die had been cast. The Geckos receive the award for Outstanding Performance in the Field of Excellence as they topped their impressive semifinal tally of 21 runs, setting the bar at 22 going to the bottom of 7. It doesn't hurt when Mike Janes is blasting 300 ft home runs into the forest canopy in left. Down double digits, Sexxy exited honorably with back to back HR's to match the Geckos cap. Great pitching and fielding on both sides in this finale, but it was the bats that came out to play.
Wanted to check the same bat multiple times after watching the hang time on Mike's three HR's Sunday. Final verdict: it wasn't the bat. Mike was a demon at the plate and a saint in the field, waging war on the blackberries in the name of defense. For a truly championship effort, congrats to our POTW!
