In this, the championship game at Northacres it was the 1st seeded Barking Geckos vs. the 3rd seeded PB Army. The stage was set for an epic battle of the bats. PB came out of the corner swinging and posted 4 runs in the first, but Barking Geckos aren't the 1st seeded team for nothing as they posted 6 runs in the bottom of the first and they never looked back! Things got interesting in the 6th inning when PB tacked on 6 runs to only trail by 1, but Barking Geckos' balanced attack on offense was too much (and the defense was great as well)! This was truly a team effort with Chris as an aggressive baserunning lead-off man, both Katharine and Gabriella placing extremely well and plenty of power and smart baserunning throughout the line-up. This team is a force to be reckoned with for a good long time! Also much thanks & appreciation goes out from Barking Geckos to their captain, Kari Callahan who got the team home after every game! Congrats to Barking Geckos - aka - Spring Season Champions!!!
Naturally the Player of the Week has to go to the Spring League Champs, the Barking Geckos! What makes this Player of the Week most interesting is that she hasn't played in weeks due to injury! Despite this fact, Kari Callahan was nominated as the "hands-down" Player of the Week by her entire team. Was it Kari's qualities as the team captain, cheers of encouragement, or organization of food/schedule/accountability/strategy which earned her this honor? Nope! She was nominated with such enthusiasm for "getting the team home every game!" Congrats to Barking Geckos and Kari Callahan - Player of the Week!
John pitched a complete game shutout, which is pretty unusual for slow-pitch softball. He also helped his own cause by batting 6-6 on the day. One of those 6 hits almost dinged a random strange man, who happened to be wondering around the center field fence. And for the record: yes, he was trying to hit the stranger in CF.
Graham is the player of the week this week! Everyitme he stepped to the plate he cleared the bases! He had numerous in the field homeruns by finding deap gaps in the field! Great job this week Graham!
