Winless in their first four games, the Casual Encounters finished the regular season off strong as they prepared for a deep playoff run.
In a close semi-final battle with Sons of Pitches, the Encounters got just enough offense in the late innings to squeak by with the 4-3 victory. Primed and all warmed up to take on the top seed in the title game, the whole squad was absolutely rolling as they defeated Rikickulous? 9-4 and win their first championship.
A tough season to start, but as winners of three of their last four games, and now league champions, the Casual Encounters proved it is not how you start but how you finish.
Had an all around great game and embodies everything good about Underdog kickball. She played a very solid second base including a key catch on a hot line drive and helping to turn a big double play. Offensively, she can bunt or kick and had an RKI single and a run scored while going 4/5 at the plate. The key to claiming player of the week however, was her positive attitude and serious but fun take on the game--Ok, it was really the hat and long socks and especially the sweet post game dance moves. Thanks for keeping it fun!
Walk-off hits are a thing of beauty. The kicker holds the weight of their entire team on their shoulders, and they shake off the pressure and come up with the biggest kick of the game. That is exactly what happened to Aaron on Thursday. With the score tied and ducks on the pond, Aaron booted a drive down the line, plating the winning run with ease. Way to go up big in the clutch Aaron!
