As this summer day in Seattle changed every time the wind blew, so were the winds of change blowing at Northacres Field. Perennial powerhouse teams like the Barking Geckos, PB Army and Chico's Bail Bonds had to settle for less than the title today as the #4 seeded Bad Booze Bears made their way towards the proverbial podium. While most teams take it easy the day before playoffs the Bad Booze Bears decided that it's better to stay loose by playing in Saturday's Red Rubber Showdown Kickball Tournament and then spend the evening winning flip-cup at Leny's! Hey, whatever works! Da Bears didn't take the easy road to the title either....first they faced off against Epstein's Mudda and won handily. Next they faced the #1 seeded Barking Geckos where the Bears again put on a hitting display to win 20-12. Finally they squared off against PB Army who put up a great fight in the Championship game, but ultimately the Bad Booze Bears were victorious! Their victory was so well-rounded and attack so well-balanced that choosing a single Player of the Game was challenging. Checking in with their stats manager it was Jeff Ching who jumped out going 5-for-5 from the plate with 3 doubles! He was also death to flying things in right centerfield as his swift feet and sure-handed glove robbed more than one opponent of any thoughts of a comeback! Special congrats to Jeff Ching, Playoff MVP and Player Of The Week! Congratulations to Bad Booze Bears on their well deserved Championship victory, you all look great in your NEW gray Champs shirts...wear them with pride!!!
The Bad Booze Bears were down big early on in the game and continued to chip away setting the table for some late game heroics from Adam. He came to the plate in the bottom of the 6th with his team trailing 8-6 and the bases loaded. He was probably nervous under that calm, collected exterior as he stepped to the plate. The second pitch of the at-bat Adam launched a shot to deep center field for a Grand Slam Home-Run that put his team on top by 2! The lead would hold as the Bad Booze Bears took the late inning win. Great job Adam!
