Last Minute came into the playoffs with the #1 seed. They had been in this position before but had come up short. This time the usually easy going bunch, seemed more about the business at hand of trying to win a championship. In their first game, they were in a defensive battle with Pitches Be Crazy. Cori Sundstedt led them in the field as she played gold glove third base catching everything in sight. Last Minute was able to pull out a late win, thanks to Nic Thompson's home run. Nic was able to keep his hot leg going in the championship game as he belted a grand slam that again gave Last Minute the final lead. Last Minute's championship was a total team effort as it seemed every game their was new player stepping up to be the hero. Well deserving championship Last Minute.
Nic Thompson came to the park focused and ready to win a championship. Nic was the offfensive spark plug in both of Last Minutes games.Last Minute's first game was a defensive battle until Nic used his fire power to knock in a a three run home run to give Last Minute the lead for good. In the championship game after being scouted by Ballsagna, Nic was still able to kick a home run, not any home run a grand slam. Once a again Nic's home run had given Last Minute the lead for good. Nic nice work, keep that leg warm this winter.
There was no other option for Player of the Week honors than Scott Pawlak from Last Minute. We have all heard the expression "he left it all out on the field", well Scott did that both literally and figurely. With his team trailing most of the game, Scott was the spark that got his team going. First, he made a great diving catch that left some of his skin in the dirt. Then on his next time up to bat, he reaches base by sliding into first base to avoid a ball that was thrown at him. Lastly, with his team trying to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh, Scott was able to reach base to potentially become the winning run. The next kicker from Last Minute was able to drive the ball to the outfield, which gave Scott the opportunity to score from first. Scott was able to score the winning run, by sliding into home plate to yet again avoid an out. After the game you could see Scott was exhausted from all his effort, but he was smiliing since Last Minute was able to get the win. Scott should be proud of his performance as it is one of the best I have seen in Kickball.
