St Andrews won two close games on their way to their first Underdog title in the Lower Woodlands Wednesday Night League. Eric and Erin Leitzinger led St Andrews to the wins with fantastic pitching (Eric) and great hustle (Erin).
In the first semi final game St Andrews held off Hit it and Forget About It's 7th inning rally to post a 11-9 win and advance to the Championship game. Eric Leitzinger's pitching and some incredible defense held the high power Hit it squad to 5 runs through 5 innings and then fought off a furious rally in the 6th and 7th innings. Nick Hoffman and Nicole Wicks had key hits in the game as St Andrews built a lead that they would not relinquish..
In the 2nd semi final game, Spank & Dank used a 3 run 5th inning to take a lead on #1 seed, My Salsa, and then played outstanding defense to hold off a late inning rally securing the other Championship slot.
In the Championship game St Andrews took an early lead courtesy of Nick Hoffman's key hits. But Spank and Dank rallied for 2 runs in the 5th and 3 runs in the 6th to take a 6-5 lead. But in the bottom of the 6th, with one out, Erin Leitzinger used terrific hustle to beat out an infield hit, which started a 4 run rally. She was driven in with key hits by Eric Leitzinger and Nick Hoffman. Liz Hoffman drove those two in with another key hit. By the time the inning was completed, St Andrews had a 9-6 lead.
In the top of the 7th, St Andrews needed to get 3 outs to secure the title, but Spank and Dank made it interesting. Spank and Dank got runners om 2nd and 3rd with one out and looked to have shifted the momentum their way. But Leitzinger was able to get a pop out to short and a liner back to the mound to end the game.
