Summer Softcore Kickball at Magnolia Playfield M/W

Brian Thorpe is our player of the week. Brian had a great game with two great hits. He had a big fly home run and a nice double. He played stellar defense out in the outfield and cheered his teammates onto victory. Nice job Brian.

Victor(y) kicked a huge double that was the beginning of the end for Das Boot. Down 2 runs going into the top of the 7th, with 2 outs already in the inning, Victor's double tied up the game, and he would eventually score the go-ahead run.

Caitlin was great at the hot corner this week. She snagged a couple of balls out of the air. She dove for a ball but didn't get it but had the presence of mind to get up and get it back to the second basemen to keep the runner at first! Caitlin also had a great bunt and sprinted down the line like a bat out of hell! Great job Caitlin!

There were some honorable mentions today: Brian Knopp had a nice big fly that resulted in 3 runs for his team and he kept them close along with Caitlin's Great D (same team). Rachel Billiott was a helluva kicker today and she had so much spirit I had to write about it. Last but not least, our fierce pitcher Dawn Cargile who pitched and fielded on a bad stick (leg)! She would not let anyone bunt on her if she could help it. She fielded her position well and got several key outs. However, Caitlin was the star today and I don't want anyone to steal her thunder. She was an inspiration to her team and several players on the opposing team actually cheered at her effort on that dive! Thank you all for giving me something to write about and I am sorry Brian was the only male star to step up! Come on guys, you have to get in on the action here! Great job everyone!

David was a great player this week. He had two double plays playing shortstop like Cal Ripken out there! He had some great kicks out there and led his team to victory. He was pretty surprised he got player of the week as he thought someone else was deserving. I had to give it to him because the defense he displayed this week was awesome and he had a positive attitude which made the game fun!

There were some honorable mentions, just like last week, Danica Smith from Mike's Hard Ballers, she placed some excellent bunts and her team spirit was contagious! I had fun umpiring the Rubber Busters (entire crew) and with a name like 'Hooray Beer' who couldn't have fun with those guys and gals! Dawn was an excellent pitcher this week again and still hustling with a bad wheel! Great job to all the ballers this week! It was a privilege!

Matt had a great game despite constant harassment from the umpire. Matt made several catches while drifting into the outfield from his shortstop position. Some catches were unbelieveable. The umpire encouraged him to let others get involved but the 'human vaccum' just kept gobbling up kickballs all night long! Oh by the way, he's a great kicker too! His defense outshadowed his offensive skills tonight however! Great job!

Our honorable mentions tonight were from Mike's Hard Ballers. Gina Hatch made her first catch tonight and gave us a celebration to write home about! Nate Eisele had an awesome night corraling kickballs from the pitcher's position. He had a great kick to first base to deny Das Boot a well deserved run! Great job you two. However, Matt was the star tonight... He took a little heat from the ump and still played his game! Great job all of you! Everyone else let's see you 'Step your game up!' next week!

"Nate the Great", as he's known among many circles, was chosen as the POW because of his dominance at the plate and on the mound. Nate's ability to flat out fly around the bases helped him in his 2 HR, 4 RBI showing. His pitching was also tip top until he gave up a lucky 3 run HR late in the 5th inning. Great work Nate and hopefully you'll come out with a W next time!

This weeks player of the week was earned by Callie Stout of "Hooray Beer". It was Callie's great catches in the field that raised some eyebrows in the field. She was the defensive force on her team, and kickers feared going her way. It was her large triple towards the end of the game that sealed the deal for her, burning the left-fielder with a deap kick to left. It was the fact that she could walk into 3rd base that earned her player of the week!! Great job Callie!

This weeks player of the week goes to Andrew Putnam of "Das Boot". Andrew won the honors with his pitching, and directing throws in the filed after kicks to help slow a great offense in his opponent to just 7 runs. In the bottom of the 7th "Drunk and Lookiing to Score" was making a comeback, which Andrew shut-down with the last catch of the game and the win!!
