Entering the semi-finals as the number 1 seed always ups the pressure, but Frank's Lil' Sluggers were up to the challenge Thursday night. After a slow start against Hold My Beer, the Sluggers stepped on the gas with an 8-run second, cued by player of the game Evan S's mammoth home run. The Sluggers never relinquished their lead and rode a 17-11 scoreline to the finals.
Awaiting them in the championship game were Lether and Associates, who had vanquished Bannon's Little Bunters in a tightly contested 12-8 affair that saw an amazing tag-out at second base to seal the deal.
In the final, Frank's Lil' Sluggers dominated again from the second inning, and cruised to a massive 31-12 final scoreline, featuring 2 home run blasts and 3 innings with 8 or more runs. The Slugger's celebrated their win with photos and a dog, and took a champs prize of a Team Fee coupon, firmly stating their intentions of a another attempt at Underdog Glory. They certainly owned it Thursday Night!
Player of the Week this week takes a nod to power, and Jon certainly provided plenty of that with 2 massive home runs, including one blast that squared up a metal pole beyond the fence and clanged resoundingly back to almost the infield. Jon also had noticeable speed on the bases and pressured his opponents into off/line throws on even the simplest of ground balls. For his ability to get on base and his offensive fireworks, Jon (or Skip as his teammates say) is player of the week.
Great effort all evening. Diving for grounders and pop-ups, heads-up base running and good sportsmanship.
Skip wins this week's Player of the Week award for a couple of towering home runs, leading his team to victory. The first two times he came up with a runner on and sent the ball deeeeeeeeep into the skate park in left center. Skip also played a mean catcher and had a couple nice plays in the outfield.
