Between weddings this season and pre-championship retirement ceremonies, one might think The Empty Pitchers might have lost their focus at some point.
Think again.
Fueled by the retirement of their long-time teammate Hope Esbin, The Empty Pitchers seemed to have the "X" factor that Twist Restaurant & Lounge had been looking for all game, notching another victory, a championship at that!
Empty Pitchers started off hot, with Tommy Hall sparking a 6-run first inning to take an early lead.
Not to be denied, Twist took advantage of at bats in the top of 2nd, with Joe Weisser and Marcus Oesterwinter knocking in RBI's left and right and bringing the game right back to a 1-run game as they trailed 6-5.
A manufactured run in the bottom of the 2nd was all the Empty Pitchers would manage, but that would prove to be the only way either team could garner a score. Scoreless in the 3rd, Twist's biggest slugger absolutely mashed a ball into the skatepark, knotting up the game at 7 piece. That seemed to be the turning point, but Empty Pitchers yet again would be sparked by their fired-up retiree, Hope Esbin. Answering the call yet again was Aaron Pyon, spurring another 2-run rally that would prove to be the deciding factor in easily the most exciting game of the day. With home runs on both sides, batters being robbed of homers with highlight reel plays courtesy of Brian Elrod, and a back and forth affair, The Empty Pitchers can feel proud putting this championship on display. Great game both seasons and congratulations!
