On a sunny afternoon at the Lower Woodlands playfield, the top two seeds of the midcore bracket faced off in what turned out to be a game for the ages. Both teams came ready to play and it showed. Each pitcher gave up only a scattering of hits, but it was the Empty Pitchers who were able to get on the board first, going up 1-0. They would add 2 more and take a 3-0 lead into the 7th inning, where the fireworks happened.
With 2 on and nobody out, Canlis blasted a 3-run HR to tie the game. Not panicking, the Pitchers would get out of the inning without any further damage. In the bottom of the 7th with a 3-3 tie, Aaron P came up with one out and blasted his own HR over left center, capping off a great game and giving the Empty Pitchers the championship.
In a great game at Lower Woodlands, Luke led his team to victory, pitching 6 scoreless innings and scoring 2 of the team's 4 runs. Even in the midst of a defensive gem, Luke found a way to go 2-for-3 on the day. The Empty Pitchers needed those hits and his runs in this very close affair. But it was his stellar pitching that sealed the deal and helped earn the championship.
Luke Deryckx helped his team attain victory today over the STF Slammers 9-4. With a HR to take the lead Luke led with his bat, but also recorded a CG with 2 K's. Luke was a veritable Jack of All Trades to help his team.
