It was an amazing championship game, as EverGreen Escapes GeoDucks pulled off a narrow 13-12 victory over the Swingin' Sword Wreckas. The Sword Wreckas had stepped up their game for the playoffs after a lackluster regular season and were playing great, but in the finals they ran into a buzzsaw. Their response was not to fold but to step up to the challenge. The GeoDucks jumped out to an 8-4 lead by the end of the In the end of the second inning but that was not the end of it. The Wreckas responded and ended up with a 12-10 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. However, after three runs in the bottom of the sixth and some stellar defense in the top of the 7th, the GeoDucks ended up in front when the game was over.
In one of the most clutch plays the Statdog has ever seen, James Parsons delivered the goods for EverGreen Escapes GeoDucks when it mattered most. Trailing 12-10 in the bottom of the sixth, somebody needed to step up and make it happen for the GeoDucks. With two runners on base, James took his shot and did his best Roy Hobbs (Or would Benny Rodriguez be more fitting?) impersonation. In any event, James hit an unorthodox three run home run that was the difference in a 13-12 win.
With Jamie Moyer type accuracy, Kirk Demeter consistently found the strike zone for EverGreen Escapes GeoDucks. By constantly putting the ball in the zone, Kirk allowed his teams stellar defense to shine. After a shaky first inning in which the GeoDucks allowed 3 runs, Kirk and the crew settled down and only allowed one more run thereafter in a 10-4 semi-final victory. The team in green now looks onto the final round to see if they have what it takes to be Underdog Champions.
As the sun was setting on one of the most beautiful days of the yeer, one player continued to shine on into the night. In a 16-9 victory, Christa Yorke led the way for EverGreen Escapes GeoDucks by driving in five runs and playing some stellar defense in right field while fighting off that setting sun.
