The Playoffs are here! This week showcased pitcher/catcher defensive plays to first and HRs over the right field fence. Also, incredible plays included a game winning hit by David Gonzales and a spectacular catch by Pitch.Kick.Drink.Repeat's right fielder as he fell backwards against the outfield hill and park boundary (fence line). All the action was great and enjoyable to witness. Ultimately, the GW hit by D.Gonzales looms large as the biggest play of the two playoff games this week. This week's Player of the Week (POTW) is decided by the impact he made on the outcome of Pitches Be Crazy's game and the fact he helped his team continue on to the championship game versus Move Pitch, Get Out the Way! Gonzales came through. He kicked the winning run in for a 5-4 last inning win and is poised to be an offensive threat in the championship game. Great playoffs and good luck in the Championship!!
When a a game is so close, there is usually one play that dictates whether a team wins or loses. After losing some ground and seeing his team's lead diminish to just one run, David stepped up to the plate and called his shot. He told his teammate he was going to kick a homerun and just like the ghost of Babe Ruth he stepped up and delivered, ensuring another win for Pitches Be Crazy!
When a player steps up to the plate with the bases loaded in a close game, usually you can see the pressure of the situation mount up. But Nate McLellan walked up to kick with confidence, telling his teammate "I won't need a first base coach". First pitch he saw, he swung and the ball just kept going... and going... and going... clearing the street past the outfield fence and into a neighboring park. This towering shot busted the game wide open and you could almost hear the feint echo of Dave Neihous whisper through out the park, "Grand Salami Time".
He was all over the field on defense and was incredible offensively.
