The stage was set; two perennial kickball powerhouses meeting in a winner take all matchup for all the marbles. Earlier in the season, Goat Rodeo had gotten the best of the OG's in a narrow 4-3 win, but the slate had been cleaned coming into Wednesday's game.
For four full innings, defense prevailed and the scoreboard remained blank. The lower seeded OG's were able to play small ball and advance runners to 2nd and 3rd. With one out, they booted a sac fly to score Kaitlin Jager from 3rd, putting them ahead 1-0.
They held onto their slight lead for two more innings before Goat Rodeo was able to take advantage of a fielding miscue and get on the board, making it a 1-1 affair.
The score remained tied until the top of the 8th when the OG's found themselves in a similar situation as when they scored the first time. Sac fly successful and a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the inning. Three quick outs later and they were crowned league champs!
Stellar defense was the key in their win. When asked about the game and their opponents, captain Greg Kelley said, "They are one of the best teams we've ever played."
Great job to both teams on a great championship game and the best of luck in the future. See you next season!!!
Way to play great defense and score runs when it counts. Enjoy your shirts and wear them proudly...or give them to a friend because I think you guys already have at least one.
Aaron had an amazing playoff game. It was a tight one as the score was always within 2 points. This meant both sides defense need to step up and keep the scores down. Aaron did that for the SloRollers. His outfield catches kept the OG's in the lead to win the game. Great, great defense Aaron!!
Martha brought her A-game to Monday nights playoffs game. No bunts from her, she booted the ball every time and found the holes in the defense as well. The SloRollers move onto the next playoff!! Great game Martha!!
After an attempt to catch a fly, and the ball bouncing off of her face, Martha fully redeemed herself later in the game. She made a run and had two great snatches out of mid air to make the outs!
