Devastating Offensive Performances Nabs Championship for Dream Team A day their whole team has been searching for, Dream Team solidified their place in Underdog Kickball lore with decisive back-to-back victories on Wednesday night.
Starting off with a bang in the semi-final, Trevor LaRowe keyed a 5-run outburst in the second inning that proved to be too much for their opponents, 5th Grade Sports Legends. Not to be outdone, Tiffany Rogers made catch after catch at shortstop, earning her Player of the Game honors.
Meanwhile on the next field, the bases rather than the players seemed to be loaded against Kick Yo Couch Ninjas. Fueled by the offensive juggernaut of Dave Langlee, Bases May Not Be Loaded But We Are scooted to an 8-4 win, advancing to the championship game. Combined with Dave's 3 runs, 1 double and two defensive double plays, Bases May Not Be Loaded But We Are almost made it look easy out there.
With the two teams, Dream Team and Bases May Not Be Loaded But We Are, now pitted against each other in the finale, it looked to be a dynamic duel.
Bases started off hot with a quick run in the first inning, putting the pressure on the Dream Team, but little did they know the Usain Bolt-type speed of Justin Nelson in left center or the gumby-esque stretching abilities of 1st baseman Kyle Stover would be the game changing performance of the night. Their terrific defense kept Bases to only 3 runs through 6 innings! Not to be outshined, Sean "Shoe" Shoemaker proceeded to light it up from behind the dish, knocking in run after run and finally turning the monkey on Dream Team's back into a full-on rally monkey reminiscent of the 2002 Anaheim Angels World Series run. It may not be the World Series, but Dream Team's win here was a major win and capped off an extremely successful season. Great season to both teams!
On this chilly spring night the unseasonably cool mid-April temperature was not the only rare thing going on. For the first time in recent memory the Player of the Week nomination goes not to just one player but an entire team's defensive efforts. We're talking of course about The Dream Team's unprecedented week 1 defense in not one, but both of their doubleheader matches. In their first game The Dream Team held Kick Yo Couch Ninjas to just 1 run over 7 innings! Then, just to outdo themselves they then allowed ZERO runs to the Bases May Not Be Loaded But We Are! Allowing just 1 run over 14 innings gives The Team Defense for The Dream Team this week's Player of the Week! Congratulations!!!
